Wow, I am just now getting Valentine''s photos up. We got a new charger for the camera so we are now back in business with taking photos!!!
Nora is crawling everywhere and pulling up to most everything! She is even starting to cruise... moving along the sofa while holding on. Today she actually worked up enough nerve to go from the sofa to my knee to the coffee table! All the while breathing so heavy. I think it was the scarryest thing she has ever done in her whole life up until now. :)
Nora is quite a handful to say the least. When I am at the computer I spend more time pulling her out from under the desk than I do typing... she loves all the wires and has discovered how to pull over the trash can under the desk. The only time I can really spend updating the page is when she is sleeping. So tonight and tomorrow while David is in Texas with Bridgstone, I will get some new photo albums put up for all you to see.
I recently went to a "Discovery Toy''s" party and we have discovered the perfect purpose for Nora''s new toy. We call it the "bite ball toy". At meal time, it is so difficult and challenging sometimes to get Nora to open her mouth to take a bite. Sometimes I feel like I do everything but stand on my head... so David suggested we have it on the table when she is eating and when she takes a bite we push the button and spin the balls as her reward.
Well, I have been doing that the last 2 days and it is working pretty good and I don''t have to put on a show before the bite which most of the time didn''t get her to take a bite.... Now the entertainment begins when she actually does what we want her to do. Talk about creative reinforcement! :)
Nora has been eating a variety of baby foods and is now on the Stage 2 foods which has a much larger of variety.
So far we have yet to find any fruit that she likes. She has turned down Applesauce, bannas, peaches, and apricots! Doesn''t like any of them. I have even tried mixing the fruit with her cereal and that doesn''t work.
Good thing is - that she loves vegetables! Except peas that is - which is so unlike her mother. Nora''s favorites are Butternut Squash, Sweet Potatoes, Spinish, Green Beans and Carrots.
Nora is cutting her 4th tooth! It broke thru the gumb Sunday night. She and I were up all night. Poor baby has had a terrible runny nose with this tooth. It is on the bottom with all the others. No upper teeth yet, just chin choppers.
On Friday, January 21st the youth traveled by bus with several members of the CSRA Catholic Pro-Life Council. We got an early start as the 45 of us loaded the bus and left the church parking lot around 7 a.m.
It was an eventful day. “Together For Life 2005 was the day’s theme sponsored by the Georgia Right to Life. Together we prayed a pro-life rosary on the bus before arriving at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to celebrate Mass for the unborn with the new Archbishop, Most Reverend, Wilton Gregory.
From the Shrine, we walked up to the state capitol where we joined thousands of other pro-life supporters. Following praise and worship songs from the steps of the capital, we heard from many legislators, religious leaders, and other concerned citizens. We also heard about new legislation that is in the Georgia Congress. Former Governor Zell Miller was scheduled to speak but was unable to be there because of obligations to president George W. Bush.
Before the 1-mile silent memorial walk through downtown Atlanta, Father Regan joined up with us and gave our youth group a special blessing. We then marched with many other pro-life supporters through the streets of downtown Atlanta. Many of the youth carried large crosses, provided by the CSRA Catholic Pro-Life Council, to show their support. It was a great day and our youth made a great statement about being pro-life.
Sorry for not updating sooner. Over Christmas we - or rather, "I" misplaced (not lost) the battery charger for the digital camera and we have not been able to use it for a month now. Just this week we got to download the photos we took by using a borrowed card reader. I will work hard over the next few days to update Nora''s page with new photos! Don''t know when we will get to take any more photos as our camera and all of it''s replacement parts are discontinued. It''s 4 years old.... perhaps we will buy a new camera for our 8th anniversary?
So much is happening with her! It is hard to know where to start so I will just start with most recent and when I think of the other I will come back and post with a backdate...
Today she had her fist official "FIT"!!! Nora and I were at daily mass. She was playing with my sunglasses during the homily and gagged herself so when I tried to help her out by taking them out of her hands she screamed - so upset with me. I gave them back to her as my first reaction to get her to stop with her fit...it worked..but she gagged herself again so I took them away. She threw her weight back with all her might and screamed. I quickly gathered up my jacket and her blanket and headed for the cry room. She cried the whole way. Since we have been attending daily mass, this was our first time to go to the cry room.
This morning Nora got to meet Santa for the first time. We went to our December MOPS meeting today and Santa was there to take photos with the children. She wasn''t scared at all to meet him. She even spent some time gabbing with him - I believe she was telling him that he wouldn''t have to bring her "Her two front teeth" because she has them already.
Today we took Nora to the doctor. She was up all night last night – very congested and couldn’t not breath when lying down so Bonnie held her most of the night and neither of them got any sleep from 11pm until 5:30am.
Dr. Nesbit looked at her ears and thankfully there is no infection. He asked how our Thanksgiving was and we told him about our surprise trip to Kentucky and then he diagnosed Nora with catching a Kentucky germ jokingly. :) He told us to treat her with nasal drops and to bring her back if she starts having any fever or diareah.
We hope that she gets to feeling better and is able to get some sleep & rest tonight! Oh, one more thing. They weighed her too and she is 17lbs which means that she is in the 82nd percentile for weight.
Nora spent her 1st Halloween in Savnnah with her friends Tyler and Tanner also known as Spiderman and Batman. David and Jay took the kids out first while Tricia and I stayed at home to hand out candy. After they made their round we did a switch off and Tricia and I took the kids out agian. Nora received 3 treats. A box of rasins, a pack on M&M''s and a Rice Krispy Treat! :)
Next year us girls will play it smart and go out with the kids first. We had to learn by experience that the kids'' treat bags would become too full and too heavy to carry and then also the boys woluld beg to be carried too! Hey I thought Superheros were suppose to be able to pick us up! :)
Saturday we took Nora to Sears to get her Christmas portraits made in her Christmas Dress. Of course when I bought her Christmas dress (two months ago) I was thinking ahead and since she will be 6 months old in December I bought her dress in 6-9 months and also cute little back paten leather shoes to match in size 3 that are for 6-9 months.
Well…. I had not thought of everything – such as – she would only be 4 months old when the Christmas pictures would be taken!
Nora’s dress looked fine although the diaper cover looked more like pants on her and keep falling off so we just took them off. However what was so funny was her shoes! They were so big and would not stay on her! She kept kicking them off faster than we could blink! However it didn''t matter much because the photos we bought were pose 3 - a close up, and pose 5, which was taken really fast. You can view them - I have added them to the photo album section of the webpage. Sorry the pictures show up so dark, it is because they were copied off the sears preview page. The real ones will be much clearer.
Last month I joined a group called MOPS – Mothers of Preschools. Yesterday, Jenna, my small group leader had us over to her home for a Pumpkin Painting Day with our children. Of course Nora didn’t do any painting but it was fun to go and be around all the other moms and children. I am uploading photos and they can be found in the photo album section. Also I am including a couple of photos David and I took of Nora by her pumpkin before it was painted.
BIG NEWS!!! Nora is cutting her 1st tooth! Who would have thought that I would have so many announcements this week, but I had to come post this right away! I was burpin Nora and she grabbed my finger and pulled it into her mouth. She loves to do that now. I was massaging her gums and felt something. I got her under the light real good and opened her up and there it is her bottom right tooth peaking thru the gum! It has just started to come thru. Keep checking back we will keep you posted :-) -Bonnie
For the very 1st time ever, she slept in her own bedroom last night! I put her down around 7:00pm after her bath time and she didn''t make a peep until 4:30am. I heard her on the monitor and went flying across to the other end of the house to her room. I resisted picking her up as everyone has warned me. Instead I softly spoke to her and rubbed her back until she went back to sleep. I then set there in the glider in her room for another 15 minutes just in case to see if she was going to stay asleep or wake back up. She slept until 6:30am!
I am so proud of her! She slept in her big bed for the 1st time!
Tonight Father Martino (the priest who baptized Nora) came to eat dinner with us. I made my all-famous “Cheeseburger Twist recipe for him. He had 2nds and even 3rds. I knew it would be a big hit however, I don’t think he cared too much for my side dishes. J
After dinner, he conducted a blessing ceremony where he went around to every room of our home and blessed each room with holy water. He spent extra time blessing Nora’s room and giving up prayers of thanksgiving for her life. It was a very special moment. Then he said special prayers over all of our Holy objects such as all of our Bibles, Rosaries, Crucifixes and even our statues of Saint Mary and Saint Frances that are outside our front door.
It was a very special night, one that will always be remembered. David and I love our beautiful home that the Lord has given to us. It is more than we ever dreamed we would have. God has blessed us so generously over the years and we are so grateful for His gifts. If we ever do move again, next time we will not wait so long before having our priest over to bless it!
Nora discovered both of her little hands this morning. About a week ago she "noticed them" for a quick moment but today she really go aquatinted with her new play toys. She lay there and looked at them and opened up her little fingers and looked at each one. (Almost as if she was counting her fingers.)
She would look up at me as if to say, "Do you see this?" and then look back at her hands with a surprise expression on her face like "Wow, they are still there!" She was so fascinated and spent 20 minutes getting to know her new play toys! She talked to them and smiled at them. It was too cute!
It is hard to believe that she went that long looking at them with out putting them in her mouth! Until now she has constantly had her little fingers in her mouth pulling on her gums. Sometimes both hands and it looks like she is trying to whistle. I will have to get a picture of that sometime.
New Pictures!! I did get the new baptism photos up on line and also prictures of Nora''s visit to Monsanto. However, they are not appearing as the latest added photo albums. Instead they are randomly put among the others. I have contacted the webmaster of Aboutmybaby.com to - hopefully they can help me fix this.
Just wanted to post a message here so you will know they are there but you will have to really look as they are mixed in.
Recently I spent a week working part time to train my replacement. Miss Annette and Miss Ginny took turns keeping Nora for me while I went into work every afternoon. Nora did great and although for me it was hard at first, I did pretty well too. It was fun to go back to work but I missed my baby girl!
Getting back into my daily routines, this week I have been playing catch up. Laundry, grocery shopping, and more laundry! I promise by the end of this week I will have the photos from Nora''s Baptism up on the page!
This morning while I was folding towels on my bed, Nora was lying on her stomach doing some “tummy time”. I was talking with Nora and telling her about how I will be going into work a few days to help train the new person taking over my job. I told her that Miss Ginny and Miss Annette would be taking turns keeping her and how nice they were. She was very excited and in a great mood. I told Nora that if she was going to roll over for the first time it could not be for anyone else but Mommy. I kept talking to her and she was cooing and laughing and in the best mood and then after about 3 minutes – she ROLLED OVER!
Of course I was so excited and immediately called David but only got his voice mail message… I left a message but I still wanted to tell someone. I couldn’t call my daddy because I knew he was on the road – driving from NC to KY… and I tried Kathy, David’s mom, but the receptionist said that she was in a staff meeting, so I called and told Me Maw Reliford! … and then of course came here to post the BIG NEWS!
Be sure to sign the guestbook so we will know who is visiting the webpage! Remember you can sign it EVERYTIME you logon :) We update the page often, so you may also want to sign-up for email reminders.
This morning Nora REALLY laughed out loud! Over and over she laughed! She woke up feeling GOOD!
Last night after David came home from work he played with her and after about an hour she fell asleep on his shoulder and didn''t wake up again. A few times he tried to put her down and she would whimper so he held her until time for dinner... then we just put her to bed thinking she would wake up around 10-11 but she didn''t. She slept the whole night! From 5:30pm until 4:45am!! David got up changed her diaper and handed her off to me to feed her before getting ready for work, I fed her and then put her back down and was surprised to hear her giggling away in her cradle around 9:30am this morning! I can''t believe she sleeps that long! I have heard that when babies go thru growth spurts, they sleep more.
Hello Friends and Family! We are finally getting back into the swing into our daily routine. We got back from our visit to KY late Monday night. Nora got fed up with riding by the time we reached Atlanta and although she had slept well before then, there was just no satisfying her except for David and I singing Jesus Loves Me to her... after nearly 35 minutes of singing the song over and over and over, David and I just began to sing our conversation to each other to the tune of Jesus Loves Me. - Sounds silly but hey, it worked! :) I took pictures while we were in KY and am uploading them to the webpage. Be sure to take a look. Oh, one more thing. We did go for her 2 month check up two days before we left for KY - I will post that news after I get all the KY photos on the webpage.
She learning all about her new environment using her eyes, her ears, her sense of smell and touch. Nora can lift her head up very good for her age. When you are holding her on your sholder she does very well... but during tummy time she doesn''t like to hold it up at all. She just stares face down at the blanket and gets frustrated very quickly.
She can focus both eyes together. David loves to walk her around the house and show her all the many things to look at. Both of them favor the mirrors :)
Nora also can follow object that are about six inches above her face. She loves high contrast colors! Her black and white book is what she can see best.
Nora can hear us when we are around! She recognizes Mommy & Daddy''s voices and respond by turning her head toward them.
Nora is a hand-holder. She grips your finger when you stroke her palm—part of her developing grasping reflex.
And her cutest trick right now, is that she turns toward your finger with her mouth wide open, when you rub a corner of her mouth. (rooting) She looks like a baby bird wiating for food. It is too cute!
Nora is 8 weeks old today! She is growing leaps and bounds. She is getitng better at controlling her eyes and parts of her body. She can follow moving objects and can focus on small objects. Her most recent discovery - there are blinking lights on her Swing! She loves to watch the lights and she wiggles, kicks and babbles, and babbles, and babbles. She is also a BIG FAN of Mommy & Daddy''s singing. It is so exciting to see her developing and learning. I can''t believe that it has been two months already!
Today Bonnie had her 6-week check up with her doctor. It was quite a challenge going by myself to the Doctor. Usually David goes with me and is a bigger help than I gave him credit for apparently. When I got there today Nora started to make the announcement that we had arrived the second the elevator door opened. She was hungry and squalled the whole time I was signing in. I had arrived 10 min early and thought that was good. It would give me plenty of time to nurse her before I was called back.
I found a seat and frantically tried to get her unstrapped out of the car seat as fast as I could... everyone is looking at us at this point. Nora''s crying has just gotten louder as she is so hungry! Finally I got her out and began feeding her….. and wouldn’t you know it! For the first time in the whole history of my going to this office during the past 9 months, they called me back within 5 minutes of my arrival - before I had even gotten my seat warm!!!
Any other appointment I would have been leaping for joy as I got up and quickly went back to the lab, however this time wasn’t that easy. I had to unlatch Nora, connect my bra, put her back into the car seat, readjust the handle so I could carry her, grab my bottled water, pick up the diaper bag and sling it over my shoulder and then pick up a very upset screaming baby “I just got started why did you take it away?!?!?!? WHYYY! WHYYY! Boy I sure wished David could have escaped from work to help me out a little but here. At least he could have helped carry all the gear…. and comforted Nora when she cried all thru my exam by Dr. Christie.
I got a good report and am now released to return to work with no restrictions. I follow up with her in December for my 6-month check up.
Oh, also before we left I was able to get a few pictures of Dr. Christie holding Nora. I will include them in a photo album on the homepage.
Woo Hoo! I am 30 today! Bet-cha'' can''t guess what I got for my present??? I got a Medela Pump In Style® Traveler Breast pump. See, I told you… bet you didn’t guess that, did ya?
Breastfeeding Nora is something I want to do more than anything. I have read a lot about it and nothing compares to mommy-milk. :) The benefits of breastfeeding is the greatest gift I can giver her and no matter how hard it may be I am going to do my best to assure her that she has this nutrition for the first 6 months of her life if not longer.
I got two important phone calls today. The first call was from my Dad and brother Brian. They called first thing this morning and were singing Happy Birthday. :) They do that every year but this time I got to hear it LIVE and not recorded on the answering machine because I am home on maternity leave :)
Then, this afternoon, George McGowan, the plant manager from Monsanto called me at home to wish me a Happy Birthday. He also asked how my new daughter was and said that they missed me at work. What a great surprise!
Our A/C quit working yesterday afternoon!!! Thankfully my friend Traice (works @ MOnsanto) offerd her home to & Nora & I to go stay during the whole day Friday.
It was just what we needed too.... I got lots of much needed rest there!! Afterall, you aren''t tempted to get up and start cleaning someone else''s home or do their laundry. Dr''s orders were for me not to do any house work for 6 weeks or lift anything heiver than the baby.... but I haven''t been obeying Dr''s orders lately.
Both NOra and I took naps today! My first time to actually get to just lay on the sofa all day. AAAAAaahhhhh! Thanks Tracie for offering us your home! :) Oh and even a BIGGER THANK YOU for hooking us up with Troy to fix our A/C for us!!! Love, Bonnie
Today we went for Nora''s 2 week check up. Dr. Nesbit was back from vacation and saw us. Everything is going well with Nora..... however her cord is still attached. But at least this time they told us it actualy has potential of coming off. :) Last time we were being too careful with it and not getting down in there and giving it the good going over like we should.
She now weighs 7 lbs. 10 oz still needs to gain some more. Usually by 2 weeks babies weigh at least what they did at birth or more. But on the good side she has grown longer. She is now 20 ˝".
Today we visited Dr. Nesbit''s office just for a weight check. Nora isn''t a big fan of being weighed. She does not like to get undressed - tool cold. Especially in their office! Burr!!
Exciting news - Nora has regianed her birth weight and now weighs 8 lbs!!! Mom was getting worried that if her wight wasn''t up we would have to start supplementing formula... WHEW! Dr. Nesbit was well pleased with her gining 6 oz''s in 7 days.
Next doctor''s visit isn''t until her 2 month check up. 8/25/04
Today was our first shopping trip to the Augusta Mall. MiMi, MeMaw, Mommy and Nora. We went to Dillard’s, and the Briar Patch then ate at the All American Grill and then back home. Nora didn''t get to see much of the mall but we saw every sale rack at Dillard’s! :)
MiMi held up a dress and asked what we thought and Nora gave the biggest smile! :) Don''t remember if that is the dress she ended up buying or not but she did find a dress she liked.
On the way home we stopped at a fresh produce stand and MiMi and MeMaw bought all kinds of good stuff. Corn on the cob, peaches, tomatoes, cucumbers and even a watermelon!
That night when David got home from work we had dinner and then went out side and took some pictures. They turned out really good! Then we loaded up and went to Lowe’s and both MiMi and MeMaw bought Crepe Myrtle trees to take back with them to KY.... and a birdbath.
Then we made a pit stop and dropped Bonnie & Nora off so they could nurse and then David, MiMi and MeMaw went to Walgreen’s and printed all the pictures that we have taken so they will have them to take back to KY. I know they are looking forward to showing them off to everyone back home.
Today Nora had her first doctor’s visit. Since Dr. Nesbitt was on vacation – Dr. Tanner looked her over really good. Weight loss is typical, especially in breastfeed babies since mother’s milk doesn’t come in until around the 3rd day or so. Nora''s weight is down to 7 lbs. 4 oz.
David and I were surprised that going to the doctor’s office would be such a big ordeal. We performed a remarkable tag team diaper changing routine while waiting to see the doctor. (diaper #1)
Then after we got to the waiting room she apparently was not done from before so when the nurse came to weigh her and she had to get naked again she got diaper #2.
Then the doctor came into see her – all clothes off again…. they really look them over from head to toe and inside and out…. Shortly after that diaper came off she actually starting doing #2 on the examining table naked. It was a big mess! (diaper #3.) Doctor Tanner looked at David and said, “Ok Daddy, you’re ON.”
We are so thrilled to finally have our baby girl! We got home from the hospital today and have been doing pretty well so far. Nora is beautiful (the photos don''t do her justice...the flash makes her red eyelid appear a lot darker than it actually is) and so far has been sleeping most of the time. It''s nice that she''s so peaceful, except that her sleepiness has made nursing a little challenging.
You''ll be happy to know that Nora''s pediatrician, pronounced her in excellent health before discharging her from the hospital. We are to go in Monday for a weight check since we are breastfeeding. He commented that her skin color looks great. No sign of jaundice at all!
Nora''s Birth Stats:
Nora is in the 67th percentile in weight. This means that she weighs the same or more than 67 percent of babies the same age.
Nora is in the 86th percentile in length. This means that her length is the same or more than 86 percent of babies the same age.
This year was our first year to watch the fireworks on TV. Bonnie''s family left that morning on their way to visit family in North Carolina before returning to Kentucky... which left us home alone for the first time.
In years past we have always gone home to KY for the July 4th celebration. Campbellsville, our hometown, has activities from sun up to sun down. David''s Aunt Connie has a home on the lake where we always go for good food and an awesome view of the fireworks.
We missed not being home with our families this year, but with a 2 week old we are sure you understand.
TV fireworks, didn''t have any affect on Nora, but for Mom and Dad they just wen''t the same... maybe we will be in Campbellsville for 2005?
Our 1st Trip to Kentucky with Nora!
David, Bonnie Nora & Jackson will be traveling to KY, Saturday, 09/28/04. We will drive up and Bonnie and Nora will be in Campbellsville the whole week before Labor Day while David travels for work. He will fly out of Louisville Sunday and return Thursday. He has a Safety Conference to go to and Bonnie didn''t want to be home alone so they planned to go to KY. On Labor Day we will drive back home. We hope to get to see all of our family while we''re home so that they can meet Nora. Bonnie will be staying at her Dad''s until David gets back from Las Vegas and then they will be spending the night at his Mother''s home. See you real soon!!!
Hello Friends & Family! Since Nora''s arrival we have been busy snapping pictures, recording video, and writing down all the wonderful new things that she is discovering and doing. We are trying a free 30 day online scrapbook to share these wonderful days with you. Be sure to sign the guestbook and let us know what you like or would like to see posted to the web page. We will be updating it often so if you would like to know when new things are posted sign up for that too.
